About the Classes
Plein Air Painting Workshop: Now in its 9th year… Cost of class: $67. The cost includes the instructional fee and a take home painting kit. This three hour workshop will focus on painting the mountains as seen from the YMCA, using acrylic paints. The instructor will talk about composition, determining a focal point, atmospheric painting, creating the illusion of depth, creating a sense of light and general painting techniques. Her teaching approach includes demonstration and individual instruction. Class size limited to 8. * age 15- up or permission of instructor

Kids Color Sketch Classes: Now in its 4th year. Cost of class: $22. Includes the instructional fee and a take home color sketching kit: This is a one hour workshop…..Class size limited to 8. * Kids of all ages 8 to 98, ( or permission of instructor) parents welcome to participate too.

Three different session topics offered:
LEARN TO DRAW HORSES….Hey Kids, learn to use crayons in new and exciting ways. Learn about seeing SHAPES and creating FORMS, and find out just what these words mean!
LEARN TO DRAW MOUNTAINS AND SUNSETS IN COLOR…Learn about GRADATIONS and VISUAL PERSPECTIVE, and what these words mean! Learn to capture the beauty of the mountains in crayon!
LEARN TO DRAW ANIMALS AND BIRDS that live in the Rocky Mountains…Learn the basics of drawing chipmunks, elk, deer, birds and other creatures found in the Rocky Mountain National Park and right here on the YMCA grounds!

Sketching Hike: Now in its 4th year.
Cost of class: $47. Cost of class includes instructional fee and a take home outdoor sketching kit: This four hour outdoor drawing workshop is for adults who enjoy hiking as well as sketching (approx. two hours of each activity, good idea to allow a little extra time at end of class).

Learn how to see details in the Mountains as well as in trees, flowers and other flora of the “Montane Eco System” as seen from special places around the YMCA grounds or in Moraine Park. Learn drawing techniques to help you create a sense of light and form in your drawings. Class size limited to 8. Must be comfortable hiking two miles in higher elevations to participate. * age 15 - up or permission of instructor.

WHERE TO MEET for CLASSES:
Plein Air Painting and Kids Classes: LOWER PORCH on BACK SIDE of the Maude Jellison LIBRARY. (Note: Main front door of library is on the OPPOSITE side of building)…..The Library sits back, between the Ad building and the Chapel. (With a great view of Mt. Ypsilon! - maps available in Sweet and Ad bldg.). Painting class participants should arrive 10 - 15 minutes early to set up and find a favorite view.

Sketch Hike: Sweet Memorial at 7:50am, INSIDE by tables in front of the main desk. Hikers leave from Sweet Memorial after a short orientation/equipment check.

The workshop will focus on painting the mountains as seen from the YMCA, using acrylic paints. The instructors have experience painting with oils and pastels, and participants with their own supplies in these mediums are welcome to take the class (check for details at Sweet Memorial*).  The instructor will talk about composition, determining a focal point, atmospheric painting, creating the illusion of depth, creating a sense of light and general painting techniques.   Their teaching approach includes demonstration and individual instruction.
