Mount Ypsilon

Mt. Ypsilon

Size of original painting: 15” x 20”

This is a Plein Air Pastel study of Mount Ypsilon as seen from the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park. Mt. Ypsilon is located in Rocky Mountain National Park. The YMCA’s founding fathers hiked 18 miles from Grand Lake in 1907, looking for a place to hold their next conference. They saw the snowfield shaped like a Y and took this as a “sign from God” that this was to be the future home of the YMCA conference center. They were lucky that the Wind River Ranch was for sale.
