Lamar Community College Horse Training Facility
Lamar, Colorado

This piece was commissioned by the Colorado State Art in Public Places Program for the entryway of the Lamar community college horse training facility. The horse training program was originally started by local ranchers.

Lamar is located in southeastern Colorado and was in the epi-center of the 1930’s dustbowl (along with western Oklahoma and Kansas). The college was founded as the Junior College of Southeastern Colorado in 1937. Some of the early school buildings were among the first WPA, (Works Progress Administration) public building projects in the state.
